THE CHALLENGE

Apio, a leader in fresh-cut vegetable products, sought to extend its value-added salad kit line, Eat Smart, via new and innovative products that leveraged existing manufacturing capabilities.

THE SOLUTION

TCE designed a diverse array of product prototypes, and conducted online consumer research and focus groups to narrow the choices. TCE then developed and helped commercialize a line of products, Gourmet Vegetable Salad Kits, to life.

THE BUZZ

The Sweet Kale Salad, the first Gourmet Vegetable Salad Kit to launch in early 2012, is currently sold across grocery and club stores throughout the US and Canada. The Sweet Kale Salad has outperformed sales expectations and today is a $10+ million product. Eat Smart has launched six more TCE-developed products in the Gourmet Vegetable Salad Kit line. TCE has also partnered with Apio to develop several other platforms including Stir Fry Kits, Superfood Salad Blends and Plant-Based Protein Salads to name a few.
