Caribou Coffee, based in Minneapolis, has grown from a small, local endeavor to the second largest coffee player in the country.
With increased competition in the premium coffee market, Caribou recognized the need to expand its product offering, opting to enter the food space. Caribou needed assistance understanding what foods fit its brand and what its existing facilities could realistically produce. Caribou brought in The Culinary Edge to provide that culinary and operational expertise.
Identifying the morning as being Caribou’s most opportunistic daypart, Caribou and The Culinary Edge worked to build up the chain’s breakfast platform, complete with hot oatmeal and warm breakfast sandwiches.
The Culinary Edge was able to provide the recipe and product development that fit Caribou’s “wholesome” and “authentic” brand positioning. In addition to being tasty, the recipes also fit the requirements of being able to be prepared in Caribou’s kitchen-free facilities in a fast and scalable way.
Caribou has since launched its breakfast program system wide. Caribou’s guests have applauded the new menu items, welcoming them with positive reviews and increased sales.
